The Great Wildebeest Migration is one of the most breathtaking natural events on Earth. Every year, over 1.5 million wildebeest, accompanied by hundreds of thousands of zebras and gazelles, embark on a circular journey across the Serengeti and Maasai Mara ecosystems.
When Does the Migration Happen?
The migration is a year-round phenomenon, but different phases offer different spectacles:
- January - March: Calving season in the southern Serengeti
- April - June: The herds move northwest
- July - October: River crossings in the northern Serengeti
- November - December: Return to the southern plains
